when artists curate for diversity, they get quality

From 2007-2009 I curated and hosted a monthly discussion series called Talking Point at Hyde Park Art Center. The previous host had booked something like eight or nine men out of twelve events. To regain balance, I drew up a list of stellar Chicago artists who are women. By the six month mark it smelled like a streak. Eighteen consecutive months looked like this, though the order’s been forgotten.
